Overview of Practice

Jonathan Davies is a specialist criminal lawyer and an experienced trial advocate. He is regularly instructed as Leading Junior for both Prosecution and Defence. He is particularly experienced in cases involving vulnerable witnesses and defendants.

Jonathan has appeared in cases for Trading Standards, Local Authorities and in cases involving offences related to broadcasting.

Fraud

R. v. M – Southwark Crown Court. Leading Junior prosecuting former MEP for significant expenses fraud during his time as an MEP. M diverted funds for his own purposes including to pay his mortgage.

R. v. S – Southwark Crown Court. Leading Junior prosecuting former MEP for expenses fraud during his time as an MEP.

Violence

R. v J – Lewes Crown Court. Prosecuting as junior alone man accused of killing his mother and burying her body in woodland. (Life Sentence) Defended by QC and junior

R. v. MO – Guildford Crown Court. Prosecuting as junior alone woman accused of kicking neighbor to death. (Life Sentence)

R. v. B, R, B, J – Lewes Crown Court. Leading Junior prosecuting 4 men accused of being involved in stabbing of the victim at a party. The loss of blood and severity of injury resulted in the victim losing all 4 limbs.

R. v. H – Wood Green Crown Court. Prosecuting attempted murder by man with mental illness who slashed his consultant with a home made knife.

Sexual Offences

R. v. SS – Central Criminal Court. Prosecuting male rape in hotel during a job interview.

R. v. W – Lewes Crown Court. Prosecuting non-recent sexual offences on male pupil by a member of staff at now closed private school.

R. v. S – Isleworth Crown Court. Leading Junior in prosecution of man for serious sexual offences against and exceptional cruelty towards the children of his family. (Life Sentence)

R. v M, M and T – Lewes Crown Court. Leading Junior in prosecution of mother, father and step-brother accused of serious sexual offences including rape of children of the family including rape of a child aged one. (life sentence for father.)

Dishonesty

R. v. A and others – Guildford Crown Court. Prosecuting 5 defendants accused of telephoning elderly people and causing them to part with their debit cards and PIN numbers. Case relied on significant cell site evidence.

R v. Sahota and others – Reading Crown Court Conspiracy to handle stolen goods worth £7.5million. Leading junior, defence.

R v. Hales – Basildon Crown Court. Time estimate six months. Serious fraud. Leading junior, defence.

R v. Chauhan – Leicester Crown Court. £4 million VAT fraud. Leading junior, defence.

R v. Chinyoka – Central Criminal Court. Multiple rape with exceptional violence and cruelty. Two victims. Leading junior, prosecution.

R v. Petley – Guildford Crown Court. Multi-handed conspiracy to cultivate cannabis. Largest cannabis factory found in Surrey. Leading junior, prosecution.

R v. Davis – Guildford Crown Court. Neglect of elderly patient in care home. Cause of death given as pressure sores. Leading junior, prosecution.

R v. Wragg – Lewes Crown Court. Murder. Father who killed his terminally ill ten-year-old son. Considered by media as “mercy killing”. Led junior, prosecution.

R v. Parratt and seven others – Guildford Crown Court. Affray. Leading junior, prosecution.

R v. Larmont – Kingston Crown Court. Armed robbery at Heathrow airport £90million. Led junior, defence.

R v. Dimmock – Guildford Crown Court. Incest father /daughter. Junior alone, prosecution.

R v. Bettle – Guildford Crown Court. Drugs case resulting in then largest Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA) order yet in Surrey, prosecution.

R v. Blackburn – Central Criminal Court. Police officer who killed his wife in suicide pact. Led junior, prosecution.

R v. Whittington – Central Criminal Court. Murder. Resolved as manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, defence.

R v. Roberts – Rape by husband of wife throughout their marriage with divorce and remarriage in middle of campaign of rape, defence.

R v. Arnold – Police officer possessing indecent images of children, defence.

R v. Ball. – Foster parent accused of sexual offences against girl in care, defence.

R v. Clarke and others – Winchester Crown Court. Conspiracy to supply class ‘A’ drugs, four-month trial. Leading junior, defence.
