Overview
Elega joined Chambers as a probationary tenant in April 2024 after completion of her pupillage at the Crown Prosecution Service, where she prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases in both the magistrates’ and Crown courts, from minor driving offences to grave crimes and serious sexual offences. She brings to Chambers a unique understanding of the CPS, which she utilises daily in her practice.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Elega was a Legal Manager for the Infected Blood Inquiry. In this role, she had responsibility for the creation of the Inquiry’s disclosure policy – which has since been adopted in other ongoing Public Inquiries – in addition to working closely with a number of Inquiry stakeholders and key witnesses. This included charities, doctors and other medical experts and Members of Parliament. She also supported Counsel to the Inquiry during the preparation for and undertaking of, Inquiry hearings.
Elega completed her law degree alongside her Masters and BPTC at Northumbria University, for which she received academic prizes from both the University and Middle Temple for achieving the highest mark in her year. During her studies, she volunteered for the Personal Support Unit, assisting litigants in person with both family and civil matters.
