Richard Jory KC and James Gwatkin represented ER in a trial lasting 5 days between 19th June 2023 and 23rd June 2023 at Isleworth Crown Court.

ER faced a single count indictment alleging murder having previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter at an early stage of proceedings. The case concerned an incident which occurred on 16/10/2021 and involved an alleged single strike to the victim’s head with a builder’s shovel at a birthday celebration.

The single issue for the jury was whether the defendant intended to cause really serious injury. ER, a man of previous good character, was acquitted of murder following 90 minutes of deliberations.

ER received a sentence of 4 years 8 months imprisonment for the manslaughter offence.
