Richard Jory KC prosecutes former President and General Secretary of Montserrat Football Association
On 14 April 2026 Richard appeared in the High Court of Montserrat when Vincent Cassell, former President of the Montserrat Football Association (‘MFA’) and Tandica Hughes, the former General Secretary, pleaded guilty to a number of substantive tax offences at the start of what was due to be a five-day trial for conspiracy to cheat the inland revenue.
The MFA has a colourful recent history. In 2011 Cassell and Hughes were fined and suspended by FIFA in a bribery scandal involving Jack Warner, the former President of CONCACAF, and a number of officials from Caribbean football associations in relation to Mohamed bin Hammam’s attempt to unseat Sepp Blatter as president of FIFA.
In December 2025, and during the current proceedings, Cassell stepped down as MFA President after 30 years in post.
In February 2026 FIFA appointed a normalisation committee to take over the running of the MFA and investigate the apparent culture of financial mismanagement. Their findings and recommendations are awaited.
