Patrick Dennis and Nicki Roberson prosecute in escalating tit for tat gangs violence case

Patrick Dennis and Nicki Roberson prosecuted 8 defendants for their involvement in a series of tit for tat incidents between rival gangs in Watford in July 2024. The first incident consisted of a chicken shop stabbing on 23 July 2024. The second incident took place on 24 July 2024. It involved gang members breaking into the victim's home at night before repeatedly stabbing him to the extent his hand was nearly severed. The third incident took place on 25 July 2024. It involved a gang member being beaten up in the park before he took revenge by shooting an e-bike rider through the heart on the A41 from a BMW he was driving. The e-bike rider only survived after a complex and unusual medical procedure was used to remove the bullet from his heart. The case involved significant amounts of often complex bad character, phone, CCTV, medical and ballistics evidence.

Prior to trial Carlito Dujon pleaded Guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a bladed article in relation to the third incident. He also pleaded Guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in relation to another incident. Before the start of their trial Emmanuel Nyamuthena, Desmond Bonato and two 17 year old boys each pleaded Guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in relation to the second incident. Bonato had already pleaded guilty to violent disorder in relation to the third incident. After a trial lasting 4 and a half weeks, Marcel Gordon was unanimously found guilty of wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in relation to the first incident. He was also unanimously found guilty of violent disorder in relation to the third incident. At the end of the same trial Hekmat Galmne was unanimously found Guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in relation to the third incident. A 17 year old boy was acquitted of attempted murder but unanimously found Guilty of wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in relation to the third incident. All 8 defendants will be sentenced on 20 and 21 November 2025.

Patrick and Nicki were instructed by Jan Muller from CPS Thames Valley.
