SE, who was defended during trial at Swansea Crown Court by William Hughes QC leading Derrick Gooden of Messrs Greech Gooden Cormack, was acquitted of Conspiracy to Supply a Controlled Drug of Class A (Cocaine) on 18th May 2022. This case, Operation Carina, was one of a number of Country-wide multi-defendant prosecutions of individuals allegedly using encrypted Encrochat mobile phones. The admissibility of Encrochat evidence has been the subject of considerable Court of Appeal litigation in the last year or so.
