Notable Cases

R v Anthony Fowler (Snaresbrook Crown Court) June 2024. Instructed by the Crown in prosecution of defendant for historic serious sexual abuse of two young boys and a dog. Defendant convicted on all counts.

R v Jolyne Morris (Kingston Crown Court) May 2024. Instructed by Crown in prosecution of female defendant convicted of serious sexual offences against a young girl.

R v I A (Wood Green Crown Court) May 2024. Instructed by ABV Solicitors in the defence of man charged with two Section 18 woundings against two individuals. Following a unanimous acquittal by the jury on all counts, the trial Judge stated that ‘Justice had been done.’

R v Khayrul Islam. (Snaresbrook Crown Court) January 2024. Instructed by the Crown in prosecution of defendant charged with raping a young girl. Defendant convicted on all counts and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

R v J T (Wood Green Crown Court) November 2023. Instructed by SJ Law Solicitors for the defence. Client acquitted of rape but convicted of minor sexual offences.

R v S A (Snaresbrook Crown Court) August 2023. Instructed by SJ Law for the defence. Client was the only defendant out of 36 defendants to be acquitted of a large-scale conspiracy to supply East London with Class ‘A’ drugs. Client convicted of two minor drugs offences.

R v Reginald Dunkling (Wood Green Crown Court) July 2023. Instructed by the Crown in prosecution of a Roman Catholic priest convicted of an historic sexual offence against a young boy.

R v K (Central Criminal Court) January 2023 to May 2023. Instructed by SJ Law for client charged with murder. Following a three-month trial defendant was acquitted of both murder and manslaughter.

R v Nighat Ahmad, Ejaz Ahmad and Momen Ahmad (Harrow CC). Leading counsel for the Crown in prosecution of the parents and brother of fugitive charged with the attempted murder of an 11 year old girl. The three defendants were all convicted of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after they assisted their son/brother to flee the jurisdiction. Custodial sentences imposed on the parents, a suspended sentence imposed on the son.

R v Ramela Gordon (Central Criminal Court) July – October 2022. Defence counsel for defendant charged with carrying out two shootings.  The first involved opening fire with an Uzi sub-machine gun at a group of people.  Jury unable to agree verdict. Prosecution subsequently offer no evidence. Defendant acquitted but convicted of a second shooting together with drug and firearm offences.

R v HM (Snaresbrook Crown Court) May 2022. Prosecution counsel in trial of rapes of a 14 year old girl. Defendant convicted on all counts.

R v Saacid Hussein (Kingston CC) May 2022. Prosecution counsel in trial involving gunpoint robberies. Defendant convicted on all counts.

R v DC (Kingston CC) April 2022. Prosecution counsel in trial of historic rape and sexual assault of defendant’s biological daughters. Defendant convicted.

R v Anis Hemissi (Southwark CC) November 2021 to February 2022. Leading counsel (leading Ms Jessica Tate) for defence for main defendant in murder case involving rival Swedish gangs. Mr Hemissi was said to have been the gunman who shot victim ten times in a professional hit.

R v MC (Central Criminal Court) September 2021. Instructed by the defence. Defendant acquitted of trying/threatening to kill his ex-mother in law with a machete.

R v Hardcastle & Others (Wood Green Crown Court) August – September 2021. Instructed as leading junior for the Crown in a 6-week trial that led to the conviction of three defendants for the burglary of ATMs at Alexandra Palace.

R v Gerald Farrelly (Snaresbrook Crown Court) July 2021. Instructed by the Crown in the successful prosecution of a defendant for S.18 GBH. Defendant severed the finger of an acquaintance in a ferocious knife attack. A 6-year custodial sentence was imposed.

R v ML (Chelmsford Crown Court). February 2021. Instructed for the defendant who was acquitted following a trial of serious allegations of knife-point robbery in the alleged victim’s home.

R v TS (Aylesbury CC) February 2021. Instructed by the defence. Defendant charged with kidnap and GBH of a rival. The prosecution described the assault as a ‘torture scene reminiscent of Reservoir Dogs.’ Defendant acquitted of all charges.

R v Asta Juskauskiene (Kingston Crown Court)December 2019 – January 2020. Instructed by the defence. A defendant convicted of murder. The prosecution case was that she arranged a ‘medieval duel’ between her ex-husband and lover leading to the murder of the latter.

R v Carlos Boente (Snaresbrook Crown Court, September – October 2019) – Instructed for defendant in gunpoint kidnapping and blackmail case.

R v Sillah Trawally (Snaresbrook Crown Court) – Instructed in the prosecution of a defendant who leapt from the top floor of the shopping centre, leaving a 22-year-old medical student he landed on paralysed.

R v Gerard Tomney (Snaresbrook Crown Court, November 2019) – Instructed in the prosecution of a solicitor convicted of making indecent images of children.

R v Abdullahi Mahamoud (Isleworth Crown Court (transfer from CCC) April – May 2019) – Instructed as Leading Junior for the defence. Client charged with Conspiracy to Murder and related offences of Conspiracy to cause GBH. Complainant and his pregnant girlfriend were victims of a targeted shooting in Wood Green. Following a 5-week trial, the defendant was acquitted of all charges.

R v Kenneth Ife (Central Criminal Court, February – March 2019) – Instructed together with Christopher Sallon QC on behalf of Professor Kenneth Ife who was charged together with his wife and sons with the manslaughter and false imprisonment of his son. Following a 5-week trial, all defendants were unanimously acquitted of all charges.

R v Nathaniel Lewis (Central Criminal Court, January 2019) – Instructed together with Alan Kent QC on behalf of the defendant who was originally charged with the attempted murder of three police officers. The defendant and three others were subsequently convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

R v Koluginas (Snaresbrook Crown Court, October 2018) – Instructed on behalf of defendant alleged to have repeatedly raped/sexually assaulted a vulnerable adult. Unanimous verdicts of not guilty secured on all five counts in just an hour of jury deliberations.

R v Omotoso (Harrow Crown Court, September 2018) – Instructed by the Crown in prosecution of defendant at his re-trial. Defendant convicted again of possession of firearm with intent to endanger life.

R v DH (Snaresbrook Crown Court, June 2018) – Instructed as defence counsel for 16 year old defendant charged with attempted murder by stabbing victim four times. After 3-day trial and cross-examination of the complainant and the production of further evidence, Crown accept a guilty plea to S.20 GBH.

R v Jeffries (Blackfriars Crown Court, June 2018) – Secures unanimous acquittal for client alleged to have drugged and raped a stranger.

R v Andy Johnson (Croydon Crown Court, June 2018) – Instructed in the prosecution of defendant charged with trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence after he followed a mother and young daughter into their home. Application made to introduce defendant’s prior convictions which included following a mother and young daughter into their home, raping the mother and attempting to rape the daughter 20 years ago. Application succeeded. Defendant changed his plea to guilty.

R v Roger Campbell (Snaresbrook Crown Court, April 2018) – Prosecution counsel in case involving historic sexual assaults on family members. 14 year sentence imposed.

R v Y Ikram (Reading Crown Court, February – March 2018) – Instructed as defence counsel. Acquittal secured on attempted murder. Defendant convicted of S.18 wounding.

R v NG (Wood Green Crown Court, January – February 2018) – Instructed to prosecute defendant charged with the rape and sexual assaults of three young boys. Convictions secured on all 22 counts.

R v Ryan Pethers (Basildon Crown Court, October 2017) – Instructed as defence counsel for client alleged to have embarked on a ‘campaign of rape.’ Acquittals secured on all five counts of rape and two counts of assault. Not Guilty verdicts were secured after just 40 minutes of jury deliberation

R v Martin Booker (Snaresbrook Crown Court, September 2017) – Instructed as prosecution counsel in serious case involving the violent rape of the complainant. Conviction secured. The defendant was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.

R v Andre Kambaji (Wood Green Crown Court, August 2017) – Instructed as defence counsel for client charged with the rape of two elderly women aged 82 and 77 in a care home. Defendant unanimously acquitted by jury. Trial Judge remarked that, but for the able way in which the defendant was represented, a sentence in double figures would have been imposed.

R v Theo Black (Croydon Crown Court, April 2017) – Appeared as prosecution counsel in serious case involving defendant charged with penetrative sexual activity with 14 year old boy. Defendant represented by eminent Queen’s Counsel. Conviction secured and defendant sentenced to 4 1/2 years imprisonment.

R v Colin Blake (Snaresbrook Crown Court, April 2017) – Prosecution Counsel in case involving serial rapist. Conviction secured and a 12 year sentence of imprisonment imposed.

Johal (Snaresbrook Crown Court, January – March 2017) – Defence counsel in multi-handed conspiracy to rob.

R v Peter Fabiyi (Wood Green Crown Court, January 2017) – Appeared as Prosecution Counsel in serious S.18 GBH, Attempted Rape & Attempted Sexual Assault. Conviction secured and Life Sentence imposed.

R v Nawaz Mohamed (Central Criminal Court, January – February 2017) – Instructed for defendant charged with shooting an opponent. Unanimous Not Guilty verdicts returned on all counts of Attempted Murder, S.18 GBH and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

R v Mohammed Tareq Patel (Leeds Crown Court, October – December 2015) – Successful defence of manager of factory in Dewsbury charged with serious human trafficking offences. Trial Judge found there to be ‘no case to answer’. Successfully resisted prosecution attempt to overturn ruling in the Court of Appeal. High profile case that attracted much media attention.

R v Roland Omorogbee (Inner London Crown Court, October 2014) – Successful prosecution of defendant charged with the rape of a 14 year old. 9 year sentence increased to 12 years by Court of Appeal.

R v George Woodman (Bristol Crown Court, June 2015) – Successful defence of man charged with committing high-value burglaries of jewellery stores.

R v Robert Graves (Maidstone Crown Court, February 2015) – Successful prosecution in case involving child-sex images.

R v Mohamed Hussein (Luton Crown Court, January 2015) – Prosecution counsel in substantial cocaine ‘factory’ case. 10 year sentence imposed.

R v Mahboob Hussein (Cambridge Crown Court, November 2014) – Defence counsel in multi-million pound cocaine/heroin supply case.

R v Cairns, 2000 CLR 473. Times Law Report 8th March 2000. Murder conviction quashed on admissibility of fresh evidence in the Court of Appeal.

R v Wijs, 1998 2 Cr. App. R. 436. Authority on sentencing in amphetamine cases.
