Natalie McNamee prosecutes meat cleaver attempted murder

Natalie McNamee prosecuted Kaiqiang Wong (aka Ka Chun Wong) at Woolwich Crown Court for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend and her new partner.

The defendant carried out what the prosecution alleged was a revenge attack against the two complainants, after he discovered that his ex-girlfriend had started a relationship with a mutual friend. He armed himself with a meat cleaver and let himself into her flat with a key he had copied after their relationship ended. Having entered the flat and found the complainants asleep in bed together, he set about attacking them both by ‘chopping’ at the bed with the cleaver. The jury heard that the knife used was one traditionally used in Chinese cuisine to chop spare ribs. The attack – which was described as “brutal” by the trial Judge – resulted in life-altering injuries to one complainant, who sustained deep cuts to multiple parts of his body (including his face), and the near-amputation of two of his fingers.

The defendant was convicted of one count of attempted murder. He had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of s.18 wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to a total of 25 years’ imprisonment.

Natalie was instructed by Jade Adenubi of CPS London South.
